The Cleveland State Society of Physics Students gives students an opportunity to take part in extra curricular activities that relate to physics and engineering. At our meetings, we have many events that allow someone interested in physics to explore physics. Here are some ways you can get involved!
Our chapter of SPS has routine meetings where we discuss hot new topics in physics, listen to our professors, physics majors, and external guests give lectures about their current research, and participate in themed events such as Physics Olympics, Physics Jeopardy, and the Physics of Rock n' Roll. At the end of each semester, we also celebrate our efforts by throwing a liquid nitrogen ice cream party, where we make ice cream right in front of you!
At Cleveland State SPS, we are dedicated to give back to our community, and what better way to do that than teaching eager children the wonders of physics? Once a month, we journey to Campus International School, where we have themed activities for children. We also partner with NASA to deliver dazzling experiments children can participate in!
As our SPS chapter grows, so does the demand for more responsibilities within the organization. This is even more true as our current officers graduate. There are many exciting roles you can play as an SPS officer, from outreach coordination and treasury services to photographer and Fabulous Physics Questioneer! If you are interested in joining our modest troop, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org for more information!
Once a month SPS goes to the Campus International School to give lessons in physics. This program is fun and educational for both the students as well as the SPS members. SPS outreach program is a great way to volunteer with Campus International School (CIS) of the Cleveland Municipal School District. Anyone interested in volunteering, please contact outreach coordinators (Jim or Krista) or Dr. Streletzky. Our SPS chapter received four consecutive Marsh White awards for this outreach program in 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, and 2015. Visit our awards page for details. To get a better idea about the SPS outreach program at CIS, see the powerpoint presentations below.
